The 5 minute glance
if every moment of potential boredom in your life is relieved with a quick glance at your smartphone, then your brain has likely been rewired to a point where it’s not ready for deep work
Schedule your internet use
by segregating Internet use you’re minimizing the number of times you give in to distraction, and by doing so you let these attention-selecting muscle strengthen
Don’t give up event if you need internet for work
If this is crucial anc cannot wait just change your schedule so that your next Internet block begins sooner
The deadling shrinkage experiment
Identify a deep task that’s high on your priority list. Estimate how long you’d normally put aside for an obligation of this type, the give yourself a hard deadline that drastically reduce this time. Tyr this no more than once a week at first, giving your brain practice with intensity
Description of productive meditation
take a period where you are occupied physically but not mentally (walking, jigging, driving, showering) and focus your attention on a single well-defined professional problem. As in mindfulness medidation, you must continue to bring your attention back to the problem at hand if your mind wanders off. At least 2/3 sessions per week
