What is dyspepsia, symptoms and treatment?
A
- Its indigestion, when stomach acid irritates digestive tract (mucosa)
- TM: ANTACIDS such as rennie or ALGINATE such as gaviscon
- Both work by neutralising stomach acid

Difference between dyspepsia and heartburn
A
- Heartburn canbe before or after eating
- Dyspepsia is after eating, mainly in stomach area

Treatment for heart burn
A
- Same as dyspepsia antacids and and alginates like rennie and gaviscon
- BUT ALSO H2 antagonists, they lower acidity in stomach
- E.g. ranitidine 75mg
- OR proton pump inhibitors E.g. omeprazole, pantropaZOLE

What is GORD and TM
A
- Acid leaks out of stomach and irritates the oesophagus
- Antacid (rennie)
- Aliginates (gaviscon)
- H2 antagonist (rantidine)
- PPI (omeprazole, pantropazole, esomeprazole)

Constipation treatment
A
- Bulk forming laxatives e.g. fybrogel
- Osmotic laxatives e.g. lactulose solution
- Stimulant laxatives e.g. senokot
- Faecal softener e.g. dulcoease

Diarrhoea treatment
A
- Drink fluids
- Oral rehydration solutions
- Antidiarrhoeal medicines e.g. loperamide in imodium
