RRFIS Overview Flashcards
What does RRFIS stand for?
Replacement Radio Frequency Interconnecting Subsystem
What is the purpose of RRFIS?
Provides signal routing, through data switching, between WSOC subsystems and host Earth terminals.
Provides remote operation capabilities and built-in diagnosis (local and remote)
How many racks in the RRFIS configuration?
6-7
What is the name of each rack and do they do?
Unit 901: Downlink interconnecting group
Unit 902: Uplink interconnecting group
Unit 903: Control group
Unit 904: Timing group
Unit 905: Fiber optic (FO) Interconnecting Facility Link (IFL) Rack (Local/WSOP)
Unit 906: FO IFL Rack ( Remote co-located Earth termina building)
The RRFIS is capable of operating in which RF bands?
IF Band: transmitting and receiving 50 to 90 MHz
L band: transmitting and receiving 1 to 2 GHz (optimized with harmonic suppression to function at a targeted range of 1.01GHz to 1.99GHz)
X Band: transmitting at 7.9 GHz to 8.4 GHz and receiving at 7.25GHz to 7.75GHz
The RRFIS is capable of providing external reference signals in which frequency(s)?
1PPS, 1MHz, and 5MHz
Switch modules can be passive or active, and active switches are NOT bidirectional. True or false?
True
Passive Switch Modules in losses:
10.5 dB loss for IF
13.5 dB loss for L
21dB loss for X
Active Receive Switch Modules provide:
14 dB gain on IF
14 dB gain on L @ 1 GHz
8.5 dB gain on L @ 2 GHz
6 dB gain on X
What does the Equalizer Module (L-Band) do?
Receives a RF input from a Switch Module and outputs a RF signal to the assigned Subsystem Module.
Amplifies the signal and improves its flatness over the L-band frequency range.
What does the Pass-Through do?
Receives an RF input from a Switch Module and outputs an RF signal to the assigned Subsystem Module.
Provides a direct internal cable connection from the input to the output.
All connections to the control systems are made directly to the Subsystem Modules. True or False?
True
What is the total number of Subsystem Modules the can be installed in the RRFIS?
Total of 64:
-32 Receive Modules (16 Front & 16 Rear) in Unit 901
-32 Transmit Modules(16 Front & 16 Rear) in Unit 902
What are 4 subsystems connected directly to the RRFIS?
FCS, WRMS, GSCCE, RLCS
What is the uplink signal flow to RRFIS?
Subsystem I/O Panel -> Subsystem Module -> Pass-Through Module -> Switch Module -> Combiner - Terminal Module -> FO Chassis (Unit 905) -> FO Chassis (Unit 906)
