RRAPID Flashcards
1
Q
What is the RRAPID approach to a deteriorating patient?
A
Airway Breathing Circulation Disability Exposure
2
Q
What method is implemented to assess the airway?
A
Look, Listen, Feel
…and then manage
3
Q
When assessing airway, what do you need to LOOK for? (5)
A
- Chest movements - present, absent, normal, abnormal
- Paradoxical pattern
- Use of accessory muscles
- Tracheal tug
- Foreign body obstruction
4
Q
When assessing the airway, what do you need to LISTEN for? (2)
A
- Abnormal sounds - snoring/choking/gurgling/hoarseness/stridor
- Silence - complete airway obstruction
5
Q
When assessing the airway, what do you need to FEEL? (1)
A
- Airflow on inspiration and expiration through the mouth and nose
6
Q
What actions can be taken during the airway assessment? (4)
A
- Head tilt chin lift (or jaw thrust if cervical spine injury)
- Remove obvious foreign bodies/suction secretions
- Airway adjuncts - oropharyngeal airway
- If patient is not breathing - ventilate using BVM
7
Q
If the patients airway is threatened due to anaphylaxis, what steps can be taken?
A
- Call for help
- Removal of trigger
- IM or IV adrenaline
- Maintain airway patency - intubation may be necessary
8
Q
When assessing breathing, what signs/examinations need to be performed?
A
- O2 sats pulse oximetry - respond with O2 at 15L/min via a reservoir mask if necessary
- Respiratory rate
