Vincent’s angina
Acute bacterial infection of the gingiva caused by spirochetes, such as Borrelia vincentii, fusiform bacteria, or an overgrowth of normal oral flora
Tonsillitis
Inflammation of the tonsils
Herpangina
A common childhood illness often caused by group A coxsackie viruses. Sores appear in the mouth and throat. Fever, headache, sore throat, or difficulty swallowing may occur.
Pharyngeal bands
The lateral pharyngeal bands are linear patches of lymphoid tissue which, as their name implies, lie in the most lateral portion of each side of the pharynx
Pharynx
the membrane-lined cavity behind the nose and mouth, connecting them to the esophagus
Cervical lymphadenopathy
Term that refers to the swelling of lymph nodes in the head and neck
Myalgia
Soreness and achiness in the muscles that can range from mild to severe
Malaise
A general sense of being unwell, often accompanied by fatigue, diffuse pain, or lack of interest in activities
Fomite
Objects or materials which are likely to carry infection, such as clothes, utensils, and furniture
Exudate
A mass of cells and fluid that has seeped out of blood vessels or an organ, especially in inflammation
Hemorrhage
The release of blood from a broken blood vessel, either inside or outside the body
Edema
Swelling caused by excess fluid trapped in your body’s tissues
Laryngotracheitis
Infection of the larynx and/or the trachea
Epiglottitis
Inflammation and swelling of the epiglottis, the leaf-shaped flap in the throat that prevents food and water from entering the trachea and the lungs
Pharyngitis
Inflammation of the pharynx involving lymphoid tissues of the posterior pharynx and lateral pharyngeal bands
