Q

mucosal denture

A
  • primarily acrylic PMMA
  • metal components may be used for strength or clasping
  • cheap
  • can be modified and added to (can plan ahead depending on tooth prognosis)
  • useful as transitional denture

Q

tooth borne denture

A

Metal framework
Load is through natural teeth

  • cobalt chrome
  • titanium
  • gold alloys
teeth are attached with acrylic PMMA or pink composite

Q

support of tooth borne gained from

A

occlusal cingulum or incisal rests

  • to be purely tooth borne must be bounded saddles
  • complex, time consuming, expensive and therefore OH needs to be good
  • cannot be modified (ideally)

Q

requriements of RPD

A
  • aesthetics
  • mastication
  • comfort
  • distribute occlusal forces to appropriate structures (through long axis of tooth)
  • retentive
  • space maintenance
  • OVD maintenance

Q

advantages of RPDs

A
  • aesthetics
  • functions (speech/mastication- consider shortened dental arch)
  • prevention of tooth movement (drifting and overeruption)
  • maintenance of OVD

Q

dis of RPDs

A
  • tooth loss greater than when a RPD provided rather than other methods of replacement
  • increases plaque accumulation
  • caries gingivirus periodontal
  • tooth movement
    some can be design dependant
  • damage to tooth tissue
  • forces on teeth may impact supporting structures
  • wuality of RPD may impact
