RPAs Flashcards
Force + Extension:
How do you set up the apparatus? (3pts)
Put clamp stand on table, held in place by weight.
Hang spring from clamp.
Hang a ruler next to it, so it starts at 0cm.
Force + extension RPA:
What is the first step in the method?
Record the natural length of spring with no force on it by looking at the ruler?
Force + extension RPA:
What is the second part of the method?
Place the mass holder on the end of the spring and record the new length.
Force + extension RPA:
How do you find the spring constant?
Force divided by extension.
Force + extension RPA:
What is the third step of the method?
Add a 100g mass onto the mass holder and record the new length.
Force + extension RPA:
How many times do you repeatedly add 100g mass?
5 times.
Force + extension RPA:
What is the correlation between force and extension?
Linear, direct correlation.
Then it levels out when the spring cannot be extended anymore.
Force + extension RPA:
What is force measured in?
What is spring extension measured in?
Newtons
Meters
Force + extension RPA:
How do you find spring extension?
Spring length - natural length.
Waves RPA:
What is investigation about?
To measure the speed of ripples travelling on water.
Light RPA:
Where do you place the mirror?
Upright on paper
Light RPA:
what is the normal and where do you draw it?
Imaginary line at the mirror
90° to the mirror
Light RPA:
where do you shine the ray box?
What is that light called? (2pts)
To the base of the normal
Light ray + angle of reflection
Light RPA:
what do you do after shining the light ray?
Mark both rays with crosses
Light RPA:
what do you do after marking rays with crosses?
Join up with ruler
Light RPA:
what do you do after drawing the ray of reflection? And how?
Draw the angle of incidence by using a protractor by doing the angle between the normal and light ray.
Light RPA:
what do you do after drawing the angle of incidence?
Draw the angle of reflection by using a protractor by measuring the angle between the normal and the angle of reflection
Density RPA:
what do you do first with the irregular object?
Measure the mass with a top pan balance
Density RPA:
where do you put the irregular object?
What is under that?
In a displacement can full of water up to the spout
Measuring cylinder
Density RPA:
What happens once the object is in the can?
Water goes into the measuring cylinder
Density RPA:
what does the water in the measuring cylinder mean?
It is the volume
density RPA:
how do you find the density of the irregular object (formula)
Divide the mass by the volume = the density
Light Refraction RPA:
What do you do with the glass block?
Place on paper and draw around it
Light refraction RPA:
What do you do after drawing around the block?
Draw the normal to the centre of the block
Light refraction RPA:
What happens with the ray box? 2pts (x)
Angle the light ray to the normal
draw crosses at both ends of the ray
Light refraction RPA:
what do you do with the crosses?
Remove the block and match with a ruler and connect all the lines
Light refraction RPA:
what angles do you measure and how? 2pts
Measure the incoming angle by measuring between the normal and incoming ray
Measure the angle of refraction by using protractor to measure between the normal in the block and the ray inside the block
