AP2 Flashcards
What is nuclear fission?
Where unstable atoms split apart, which releases energy.
Used in power plants to release energy.
Hazards of background radiation.
Right levels of radiation can cause health effects like skin burns and radiation sickness.
Long term effects is cancer.
Background radiation is only partially man-made.
What is nuclear fusion?
nuclear reactions between light elements form heavier elements.
How can energy be transferred?
Convection Conduction Radiation Heating Electrical workings
What is dissipation?
Where some energy isn’t transferred and is lost in the surroundings.
(considered as waste).
What is static electricity?
Electricity that doesn’t move through wires, but through one object to another by charged particles.
What are some domestic uses for electricity? And what are some safety precautions?
Cooking, heating and to power devices and appliances.
Faulty electrical equipment and faulty installations may cause fires.
And contact with lives wires can cause burns and electric shocks.
What type of current is used in domestic electricity?
Alternating current.
What are some global energy resources?
Fossil fuels,
Bio-fuels,
Nuclear fuels,
And the sun.
What are some national energy resources?
Tidal,
Wind,
Water waves.
