Progresses under H VII?
Moved around constantly in early years of his reign
Went on a progress in midlands in 1486 (resistance was highest here)
Marched at the head of his armies in 1487 and 1497 to deal with these rebellions
Progresses under HVIII
Went of progresses every summer to escape disease in London
1535- decision to visit Salsibury and Winchester may have prevented an uprising (conservative)
1536- uprisings in the north because it was neglected (only persuaded to go after more unrest in 1541)
Progresses under E I
Brought to their height under her (happened almost every summer)
Partially to save money because her hosts paod for her expenses
Mainly visited the south and east but never ventured farther to Yorkshire
Visited Dudley and Cecil’s homes the most
Why were progresses important?
Increased the visibility and respect for the monarch
