Describe the features of wardship fines. (2)
It was paid when a baron died and his heir was underage.
The King would decide where the wards lived as well as what training and education they would receive.
What were forest fines?
The King could claim forest fines for people living, working, hunting and foraging on land that belonged to him.
How could John make money by interfering in legal cases?
People would pay him to rule in their favour.
What was scutage?
A payment made in return for not having to fight.
What was the 1207 tax on movables and incomes?
A tax paid by barons to King John, it was based on their goods and income.
What were the role of sheriffs in the government and finance?
They were given an amount of tax to collect from an area, anything else they collected they were allowed to keep.
