Q

How do you calculate the corrected gestational age for a premature baby?

A

the age minus the number of weeks he/she was born early from 40 weeks
e.g. a baby born prematurely at 32 weeks, when should they smile?
6-8 weeks is the normal age when a child should show a responsive smile. The reference age of the corrected age is 40 weeks. In this case the baby was born at 32 weeks gestation which means 8 weeks have to be backdated. So 14-16 weeks is the answer.
