Rotator Cuff Muscles Flashcards
What is rotator cuff muscles?
A group of four muscles that originate from the scapular and attach to the humeral head.
List the rotator cuff muscles
- Supraspinatus muscle
- Infraspinatus muscle
3.subscapularis muscle
4.teres minor muscle
What is the origin of the supraspinatus muscle
The supraspinous fossa of the scapula
What is the insertion of the supraspinatus muscle?
Attaches to the greater tubercle of the humerus
What is the innervation of the supraspinatus muscle?
The suprascapular nerve
What is the action of the supraspinatus muscle?
Abducts the arm 0-15° and assists the deltoid for 15-90°
What is the origin of the infraspinatus muscle?
Originates from the infraspinous fossa of the scapula
What is the insertion of the infraspinatus muscle?
It attaches to the greater tubercle of the humerus
What is the innervation of the infraspinatus muscle?
The suprascapular nerve
What is the action of the infraspinatus muscle?
It rotates the arm laterally
What is the origin of the subscapularis muscle?
Originates form the subscapular fossa on the costal surface of the scapular
What is the insertion of the subscapularis muscle?
It attaches to the lesser tubercle of the humerus
What is the innervation of the subscapularis muscle?
The upper and lower subscapular nerve
What is the action of the subscapularis muscle?
It rotates the arm medially
What is the origin of the teres minor muscle?
Originates from the posterior surface of the scapula adjacent to the lateral border
