Rotational Motion Flashcards
Define Moment of Inertia
Moment of inertia is defined as a quantity expressed by a body resisting angular acceleration, which is sum of the product of mass of every particle and the square of the distance from the axis to the point.
I=MR^2
State any four physical significance of moment of Inertia
The moment of inertia depends upon:-
1) distance from the axis
2) mass of the particle
3) distribution of these masses in the given axis
4) Inertia increases with increase in mass
Define radius of gyration
It means that the mass of that object is effectively at distance K from the axis of rotation.
In this case, K is the radius of gyration.
State what does radius of gyration depends upon
It depends upon the
1) mass of the object
2) and how the mass is distributed around the axis
3) larger the value of K further the mass from axis
State conversation of angular momentum.
Angular momentum is constant and concerned when torque acting on it is zero
