Management?
General measures:
To avoid flares:
- avoid sun exposure
- avoid soaps
- avoid steroids of any kind contacting skin
- use green tinted makeup to cover telangiectasia
- use emollients
To prevent flushing:
- avoid rapid changes in temperature
- avoid hot or spicy foods and beverages
- avoid alcohol
- avoid calcium channel blockers
Pharmacological:
1) Topical
- metronidazole 0.75% gel daily for 6 - 12 weeks
- azaleic acid 15% daily for 6 - 12 weeks
ADD
2) Oral
a) doxycycline 50 - 100mg daily for up to 8 weeks
OR
b) erythromycin 250 - 500mg BD for up to 8 weeks
IF not response in 4 weeks
c) minocycline 50 - 100mg daily for up to 8 weeks
IF symptoms relapse after 1 month off treatment consider:
Doxycyline/minocycline 50mg daily or alternate daily for 6 - 12 months
Telangiectasia:
(Mivraso) brimonidine tartrate 5 mg/g gel topically, once daily in the morning.
-lasts 12 hours
