Rosacea:

Management?

A

General measures:

To avoid flares:

  • avoid sun exposure
  • avoid soaps
  • avoid steroids of any kind contacting skin
  • use green tinted makeup to cover telangiectasia
  • use emollients

To prevent flushing:

  • avoid rapid changes in temperature
  • avoid hot or spicy foods and beverages
  • avoid alcohol
  • avoid calcium channel blockers

Pharmacological:

1) Topical
- metronidazole 0.75% gel daily for 6 - 12 weeks
- azaleic acid 15% daily for 6 - 12 weeks

ADD
2) Oral
a) doxycycline 50 - 100mg daily for up to 8 weeks
OR
b) erythromycin 250 - 500mg BD for up to 8 weeks

IF not response in 4 weeks
c) minocycline 50 - 100mg daily for up to 8 weeks

IF symptoms relapse after 1 month off treatment consider:
Doxycyline/minocycline 50mg daily or alternate daily for 6 - 12 months

Telangiectasia:
(Mivraso) brimonidine tartrate 5 mg/g gel topically, once daily in the morning.
-lasts 12 hours
-more pronounced response with continued use
