Flapper

Prohibition
the action of forbidding something, especially by law.
Speakeasies
(during Prohibition) an illicit liquor store or nightclub.
Maginot Line
a line of defensive fortifications built before World War II to protect the eastern border of France but easily outflanked by German invaders.
Kellogg-Briand Pact
A 1928 international agreement in which signatory states promised not to use war to resolve “disputes or conflicts of whatever nature or of whatever origin they may be, which may arise among them.”
Disarmament
the reduction or withdrawal of military forces and weapons.
General strike
A strike of workers in all or most industries.
Overproduction
production of more of a product, commodity, or substance than is wanted or needed.
Finance
the management of large amounts of money, especially by governments or large companies.
Federal Reserve
Created in 1913 to provide the nation with a safe, flexible and stable monetary and financial system.
Great Depression
the financial and industrial slump of 1929 and subsequent years.
New deal
A group of government programs and policies established under President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1930s; the New Deal was designed to improve conditions for persons suffering in the Great Depression.
FDR
32nd President of the United States; elected four times; instituted New Deal to counter the Great Depression and led country during World War II (1882-1945)
