Life safety rope is used to support rescuers and victims( one continuous virgin fiber), utility rope is used to hoist tools and equipment.

What is dynamic rope?
Rope that stretches farther than static rope stretches.
What is static rope?
Rope that will stretch a relatively short distance under load.
What is kernmantle rope?
A jacketed rope composed of a braided covering sheath (mantel) over a core (kern) of the main load bearing strands.
How should kernmantel rope be inspected?
By putting a slight tension on the rope while feeling for any lumps, depressions or soft spots.

How would you inspect laid rope?
Should be in twisted and checked internally for flaws.

Generally, three strands are twisted together.

It’s constructed by intertwining strands of rope together (similar to braiding a persons hair).

It is constructed with both a braided core and a braided sheath that has a herring bone pattern.
What are general guidelines for cleaning synthetic fiber rope?
Cool water and mild soap. Washing by hand, rope washer or front loading washer.
What are the elements of a knot?
A knot must be easy to tie and untie, be secure under a load and reduce the rope’s strength as little as possible.
