-BY USING DISTANCE KNOTS and transmit info to members searching on rope and to the IC OR FIRE SECTOR SUPERVISOR

AMOUNT deployed MAY NOT BE INDICATION of members’ location (maze, turns , etc.)…you may have deployed 100 feet and only traveled 30 feet

  • size of area
  • configuration (maze like)
  • EXPERIENCE
  • HEAT/SMOKE conditions
  • ability to stay within VOICE CONTACT

-Officer and 2 FF’s will operate as FIRST SEARCH TEAM

remaining members should:

  • standby as BACK UP TEAM
  • monitor search team progress
  • monitor HT transmissions
  • monitor fire conditions
  • be ready to assist the search team with recovery/tools
  • monitor the team’s on air time

OFFICERs should account for ALL MEMBERS , when unit is relieved or completed their assignment

-search tactics with rope are very different from without rope

PACKING THE ROPE:

A
  • ensure rope is DRY
  • clean surface, remove kinks and COIL CLOCKWISE beginning with SINGLE KNOT END (GOES IN LAST–Middle of coil)
  • secure clip at 7 knots end to ‘D’ ring at bottom of bag
  • “D” ring ALERT MEMBERS WHEN THEY ARE AT END OF ROPE
  • coil rope into case counter clockwise

-pass hook through hole in the cover and SNAP IT TO THE RING ON TOP
