Who was Shakesphere?

A

He is the world’s most famous poet playwright. He lived in the days of Queen Elisabeth I. Plays were popular then and his understanding of people (they fall in love or break their heart). He gave the English language imagery, drama, and poetry and we use his phrases everyday. He created over 1,700 words we use today in English. He created compound words, verbs, adjectives, and more.

What is a prologue?

A

A separate introduction that leads to an event or situation. It sets the story giving background information about the setting, characters, plot, etc.

A

A European Tradition. The man should fall in love with a women in a higher social class, maybe married so she’s unattainable. She must spurn his advances in order to perceive and honour her good name.

What is fiftieth century Italy like?

A

Long time before Shakesphere was writing his version in 1595. Italy was made up of a number of independent cities based around larger cities. Most important were Venice, Florence, Naples, Papal States. Each state had their own ruler and Verona is shown to have it’s own prince.
