How to cite a quote for Romeo and Juliet?
(act.scene.line)
Explain: “What’s in a name? That by which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet.” Is this true in Romeo’s case?
She says in this line and following lines that she thinks names don’t really mean anything. Even if a rose were called a stinking pile of trash, it would still smell like a rose. She applies this logic onto Romeo and says that he should get rid of his name and he would still be perfect and will be able to be with her. This is not really true in reality because Romeo would be betraying his entire family and losing everything. His name actually holds a lot of weight for him.
What does this quote show us?
