Patrolled the street at night and put out fires

What happened when a crime was committed?
Victims had to collect the evidence and bring the accused to court. Juries decided serious crimes and judges decided less serious crimes
What would happen to a Noble that committed a crime?
They could escape execution with a fine or going into exile
What happened to ordinary citizens that committed crimes?
Executed for serious crimes and for less serious crime they were whipped or had to pay back the goods they have stolen
What was a aedile?
Cleaned the streets and did things like weighed bread
What would happen to a slave if they killed their master?
All the slaves in the household would be crucified
