Orphan studies before ROM orphans studies included trauma from war as well as neglect, physical abuse and bereavement, which tangles with Inst. care effects
Most of ROM child had been handed over by loving parents
EVAL-: TYPE of institutional care
Quality was very poor with children receiving little intellectual stimulation or comfort
Harmful effects may be for this reason
EVAL-: Lack of adult data
Lack of data from ERA study
Only up to 25yrs
No data for long term effects
Takes long time because of longitudinal nature
EVAL-: Social Sensitivity
Results publ. with child. growing
Those around them may have lowered expectations, treated them differently
HOWEVER, so much has been learned it will benefit the group
