It means that people were selected for government positions because they were friends of someone in the authorities.

Children learned about farming, training for war and more in their homes. The Romans were soon influenced by the greek gods so then they had greek tutors teah the wealthy children about classic literature.
What was the purpose of gladiator fights?
To entertain the people watching.
Slavery?
To more slaves rich men had, the greater a status was given to him. Slaves worked as footmen,messengers,accountants,tutors,secretaries,carpenters,plumbers,hairdressers ect.
