Consul
2 consuls, voted in July, assume office in January, power of imperium, convening of senate, authority over other offices, leading of armies, proconsulship, min age 43
Praetor
8 praetors, elected by Comitia Centuriata, one year term, imperium, mainly judicial, propreator (governorship of provinces), min age 40
Quaestor
20 in number, 2 in Rome, 18 in provinces, elected by Comitia Tributa, 1 year term, drew lots to determine which province, public treasurers, collect money that was due to states, payed it out to proper offices (glorified tax collectors)
Aedile
4 in number, 2 curule, 2 plebian, elected by Comitia Tributa, 1 year term, duties included: protection of streets (fire, water, etc.), distribution of grain, public games (how they gained favor with people)
Censor
2 in number, usually ex-consuls, elected every 5 years by Comitia Centuriata, served for 18 months, took census, assessed property, supervised public morals
Cursus Honorum
Quaestor, (Aedile), Praetor, Consul
Tribune of the Plebs
10 in number (in Cicero’s day), chosen for the first time in the 5th C. BCE, to protect rights of plebians, elected by Comitia Tributa
