A
- their works fell into disrepair- standard of public health in Britain WENT DOWN
- lots of medical knowledge was lost- libraries dismantled/ destroyed
- church liked the works of galen better bc it fit with what the bible taught- that god created all- work of galen carried on right up until the middle ages.

- roman empire extremely well organised- offered medical training
- spread violent entertainment like gladiatorial combat which meant that doctors had to become skilled at treating wounds
- Romans were responsible for the spread for Christianity

- government intervened to provide water supplies, sewer systems and public bath- to improve the health of its population

- galen was emperor’s doctor, he was encouraged to public his texts- taught many other doctors
- influence could be negative or positive

war brought romansto Britain- they brought new medical knowledge with them- stayed for over 1500 years
- brought with them new standards of cleanliness and new emphasis of hygiene
- war also led to romans leaving britain- their libraries fell to decay- lots of medical knowledge lost
- easy to understand why medicine went backwards after they left
