  • n supported Galen’s idea of four humors as it fitted the church’s idea that God created all humans
  • monasteries and covents have the best libraries- some provided training for doctors- taught four humors but were not encouraged to prove galen wrong

what was the treatment in the middle ages?

A
  • physicians/ doctors had some medical training
  • urine charts and astrology to diagnose and treat illness
  • doctors only treated rich- most illnesses dealt at home by local village healers (usually women)
  • wise women provided herbal remedies and advice on curing illness and infections
  • hospitals were places of rest- not used for infections or terminally ill patients- were usually attached to monasteries/ covents
