Roles Of Muscles worth 5 marks Flashcards
What are the roles of the muscles ?
What is Agonist ?
- Agonist also known as the working muscle
- They produce the movement
- prime mover - the working muscle recruited ( to rearrange the muscles to fully coordinate with each other ) first
- assistant movers - the muscle need more corporation from each other to do the job
What is Antagonist?
Antagonist is also known as the relaxing muscle
When the relaxing muscle (antagonist) relax then the working muscle (agonist) function properly
What does reciprocal inhibition do?
Reciprocal inhibition - As the working muscle ( agonist) contracts , it’s relaxing muscle ( antagonist) instantly relaxes to allow the movement to happen
What does synergist or (neutraliser)
A way to remember it’s function aids or help
This is the process where the muscles prevent unwanted movement
What is fixation also known as stabilises
Anchors ( which provide support and stability) to a bone or body part so that the relaxing muscle ( agonist) has a firm base on which to pull
