Communication tips:
A
- eye contact
- actively listen and nod head to demonstrate
- minimise hand gestures
- speak slowly and clearly
- allow actor enough time to speak
- briefly repeat sections they’ve said to show understanding
- don’t interrupt
- change tone of voice and vocab accordingly.

What are some ways to show empathy?
A
- brief reintroduction/catch up
- warning shot before bad news ‘I’m afraid I have some bad news to share…’ or ‘I’m in the difficult position of having to tell you…’
- pause after giving bad news
- give space to react
- could offer pretend tissues or water

How do you tackle professional judgement situations?
A
- make conversation at the start to make them comfortable.
- be sensitive - ask how they are feeling etc.
- prioritise patient safety, eg. come to the agreement that colleague will take the rest of the day off and offer private talk the next day.

Tips for prioritisation stations:
A
- think rationally, eg skills that would help, why wouldn’t you select certain objects.
- voice reasoning aloud.

A
- state aim of task
- assess persons ability to perform the task
- specific word choices
- check in with person’s progress
