Q

What triggers the start of puberty? (F)

A

When the Hypothalamus increases production of Gonadotropic releasing hormone (GnRH)
GnRH acts on the anterior pituitary to produce LH (it triggers ovulation & the development of the Corpus Luteum) and FH
(Stimulates the growth of ovarian follicles)
The Corpus Luteum is a temporary hormone-secreting structure that develops in an ovary after an ovum has been
discharged but degenerates after a few days unless pregnancy has begun
After ovulation, estrogen & progesterone inhibit the pituitary & the HP gland

A

They act on the ovaries to produce FSHs Estrogen & Progesterone

Q

What triggers the start of puberty? (M)

A

When the HP increases the production of GnRH
GnRH also acts on the AP to produce LH & FSH in males
FSH stimulates sperm prod. In the STs
LH stimulates testos. prod. in the Interstitial cells
Produces secondary sex characteristics & launches the rep. cycle
