A
A set of signs that need to be decoded by the audience
They are repeated over time and get acceoted and even take on the ideology of a society

Can signs be interprested in different ways?
A
Yes depending on culture e.g the Union flag hads a different context at a royal wedding as opposed to symbol of the BNP
Red Rose can stand for love or the Labour party
