people move towards self-actualisation depending on their own thoughts about themselves

everyone has a need to be regarded by others in a good light and to be shown, love affection and respect.
what did rodgers describe two parts of the self as?
ideal self and self-concept
what is unconditional positive regard?
this is where a person gets affection and support no matter their behaviour
what is conditions of self worth?
this is where approval and affection are given as a result of behaving in a certain way
what was rogers therapy known as?
client-centred therapy/ person centred therapy
what is the job of the therapist in rogers therapy?
try and make the client aware of their thoughts and feelings
why is unconditional positive regard important in the therapy?
the therapist is supportive of the client no matter what they do or say

studied 700 people over 5 years
a questionnaire was used to measure extent of their condition before and after therapy
found that 70% of rps showed significiant improvement in their mental health after taking part in therapy
