What did Roger Brown do?
He outlined the 5 stages of language development in young children.
Telegraphic Speech= children use sentences that are stripped back but still grammatically correct.
He used Longitudinal Observations to record children’s emerging speech and to classify different types of telegraphic speech.
He noted children often made Vicarious Errors as language was emerging but the word order was correct.
He noted the length of sentences increased as their language developed (Mean Length Utterances- MLU).
