Fold mountains are formed by two colliding tectonic plates pushing against each other.

A

1.Caledonian 400 million years ago.In Ireland the Dublin-Wicklow mountains were formed during this period.

2.Armorican Folding 250 million years ago. Many Munster folding mountains were formed during this time , for example Ma gillyvuddy reeks in Kerry and the Galter mountains in Tipperary.

  1. Alpine folding started in 35 million years ago and is still ongoing today. These are the youngest and highest fold mountain’s in the world.( because they haven’t been worn down by weathering ).They include the Rockies in America,the Himalayas in Asia and the Alps in Europe.
