Q

What is biological weathering

A

Seeds fall into cracks in the rocks where they grow into small plants or trees. As they grow they force the cracks to widen and the rock to fall apart

Q

Steps of fracking

A
  1. A vertical well is dug into the ground
  2. A horizontal well is drilled miles underground through shale rock
  3. “slick” water is pumped into the well forcing fissures to widen
  4. Proppants (tiny grains like sand) hold fissures open
  5. Rock is opened up and gas is released
  6. Gas is flushed to the surface and collected
