What is granite?
Granite is a hard multi-coloured rock. It contains pink or grey feldspar and crystals of mica or quatrtz.
How is granite formed?
Granite is formed when magma cooled deep within the earths crust. The magma cooled so slowly that large crystals had time to form.
Where is granite found?
Granite is found in the Wicklow and Mourne mountains.
How is limestone formed?
Limestone is formed when dead plants and sea fossils are compressed together.
How is sandstone formed?
Sandstone is formed when sand is compressed together.
What are metamorphic rocks?
Metaphoric rocks are rocks that are changed due to heat or pressure. Marble and quartzite or an examples of Metaphoric rocks.
What does the word Metamorphic mean?
The word Metamorphic means change.
What are grikes?
Grikes were once narrow vertical joints which were widened by rainwater.
What are Clints?
Clients are the blocks of limestone that were created by grikes.
What is a Swallow hole?
Swallow hole is Grikes that will have to be widened to chemical activity into a vertical whole called a Swallow hole.
What are passages?
Passages are large tunnels form by underground water dissolving the limestone.
