robotics Flashcards
Asimov’s three laws of robotics
· a robot may not injure a human through action or inaction
· a robot must obey orders given by humans, unless it comes into conflict with law 1
· a robot must protect itself, unless this conflicts with law 1.
characteristics of a robot
ability to sense their surroundings; programmable; have a degree of movement
How do robots sense their surroundings?
sensors; recognise the immediate surroundings and give it the ability to determine things(temp/appearance etc.); all sesor data sent to a microprocessor/computer
How are robots ‘programmable’?
they have a ‘brain’(controller) that determines the action to be taken to perform a certain task
INDEPENDENT robots
autonomous; can replace the human activity totally
DEPENDENT robots
human interface through a computer/control panel; can supplement the human activity rather than totally replace
