Robinson 44 POH Section 3 Emergency Procedures (5/17/2024) Flashcards
What is land immediately?
Land on the nearest clear area where a safe normal landing can be performed. Be prepared to enter autorotation during approach, if required.
Land as soon as practical?
Landing site is at pilot’s dissertation based on nature of problem and available landing areas. Flight beyond nearest airport is not recommended.
What are some indications of an engine failure? (4 items)
- Change in noise level
- Nose left yaw (because the tail rotor is still producing thrust)
- Oil pressure light
- Decreasing engine RPM
What are some indications of a drive system failure?
- Unusual noise or vibration
- Right or Left nose yaw
- Decreasing rotor RPM, while engine RPM is increasing
What do you do in case of a power failure?
lower collective, enter autorotation
What are the different glide speeds and situations in the R44?
70 KIAS (indicated in emergency procedures section of the POH)
90 KIAS / 90% (max glide)
55 KIAS / 90% (min sink rate)
Describe maximum glide distance factors (Airspeed, Rotor RPM, Minimum rate of descent)
Airspeed- 90 KIAS
Rotor RPM- 90%
Minimum rate of descent- 1350 feet/min -or- 1500 feet/nm
Air restarts not recommended below what altitude?
2000 feet AGL
What is the minimum rate of descent
1350 fpm
What is the glide ratio?
4:1
If a helicopter travels 4,000 feet forward while descending 1,000 feet its glide ratio is said to be 4:1.
What is INOP when battery and alternator switches are both OFF? (2 items)
- Low Rotor RPM warning
- Governor
Describe the electrical of the tach system
Each tach, the governor, and the low RPM horn are on separate power circuits.
If the battery and alternator switches are both off, what supplies power to the tachs?
A special circuit between the battery and the tachs supplies power.
What are some indications of a hydraulic system failure?
- Heavy or stiff cyclic and collective controls
- intermittent and/or vibrating feedback
What are you experiencing if you feel a nose left yaw and a change in noise level?
Power failure
