How is robbery defined?

A

Robbery is defined under section 8 of the theft act as a person is guilty of robbery if he steals and immediately before or at the time of doing so and in order to do so, he uses force on any person or puts a person being in fear or being then subjected to force

A

Force must be used at the time of stealing.
- accidental infliction of force during theft is not robbery

What is the mens rea required?

A

D must have the mens rea for theft- dishonesty and intention to permanently deprive
