What is an attempt?

A

If with intent to commit an offence to which this section applies a person does an act which is more than preparatory to commission of the offence, he is guilty if attempting to commit the offence.

What is meant my merely preparatory ?

A

Gullefer- when D has several acts to do before they commit the full offence, being planned and equipped is not an attempt. ( R V Gullefer)
The Geddes test asks;
- had the accused moved from planning or preparation ti implementation?
- Had the D dine an act showing that he was actually trying to commit the full offence?

A
