What was the Red Scare?
Red scare was fear of radicalism. (Communism)
What actions did the government take in response to the Red Scare?
The response was nationwide and created the Espionage Act to prosecute or jail many people who were radicals.
What actions did the government take to restrict immigration in the 1920s? Why did they do this?
In the early 1920s, laws were passed to restrict immigration. Severely restricted Germany and Russia.
1: Quota Act 1921: limited 3%
2: Quota Act 1924: limited 2% of their 1890 US population
This was because they wanted to reduce immigration from Eastern Europe.
What was the 18th amendment?
Prohibit distribution, sale, manufacture of alcohol in any form.
What were the effects of the 18th amendment?
Consumption of alcohol declined, disrespect to the law, increase in boolegging and smuggling, crime grew, people said alcohol illegally as a source at income.
What was the 19th amendment?
Granted women the right to vote.
What were the effects of the 19th amendment?
Women could now vote. This also prohibited a citizen to be denied the right to vote based on gender. (I think helped someone vote) (CHECK)
What contributions did Henry Ford make to the mass production of automobiles?
Henry Ford contributed to the mass production of automobiles because to his invention of cars people could now travel where they wanted faster. Which also helped business emerge.
How did advertising begin to change in the 1920s?
Advertising advertised new stuff like beauty products, sales management, new fashion style.
How did mass production and advertising lead to increasing consumerism in the 1920s?
People saw products, food on TVs and wanted to also have the same products or try the same food. They also saw the benefits an automobile had.
How did Radio and movies act as a unifying force in national culture during the 1920s?
Radio and movies provided people with entertainment and information through different forms of communication. (THEY ALL ENJOYED THE SAME THING COAST TO COAST)
How did jazz music reflect the culture of the 1920s?
Jazz was so influential and it was the first true American music.
What was the Harlem Renaissance?
Harlem Renaissance was the first significant artistic movement coming out of black culture. Movement produced notable works of literature, music, dance, visual arts.
Who was Langston Hughes?
Langston Hughes was a poet who celebrated African American culture and promoted equality through his poetry. He was notable in the Harlem Renaissance
Who was Irving Berlin and what was the Tin Pan Alley?
Tin Pan Alley was the birthplace of American popular music
Irving Berlin was a famous composer who shaped popular music (nazi sympathizer)
