Roadmapping Flashcards

1
Q

Radio Map

A

A modular breakdown of the technology required for each step
A high-level view of the entire process
Smaller sections of this team would have their own roadmap
This should be continually upgraded as the market changes

T-Plan Process

A

Market & Business
-Brainstorm trends & drivers that impact on personal mobility
Consider social, technological, economic, environmental & political factors)
Share and capture these in the ‘Market’ layer of the chart
Capture a few business strategy ideas in the ‘Business’ layer, including product releases

Product and Service
Discuss & agree on your product/service vision; this should not be too precise – sufficient to set the direction of innovation; the basic product configuration and focal customer segment should be clear
Brainstorm product concepts, features and performance aspirations (all ideas are good at this stage)
The ideas and language used should be customer-friendly (if a technologically expressed idea is raised ask ‘why is it useful?’ to identify the customer benefits it addresses)
Cluster into 7-8 groups in terms of similarity and label each group (bear in mind that these will become layers of the roadmap)

Charting
Pick 5 product clusters and label Product layers of roadmap accordingly
Identify 5 broad technology areas relevant to the product and label Technology layers of roadmap accordingly
Consider one Product layer and set out specific targets (product/service functions, features, performance) for each product release (2, 5 & 10 years), to develop strategic narrative for that layer;
Capture associated technological developments needed to support the product layer strategy;
Repeat for other Product layers as time allows; Do not transfer brainstormed ideas to roadmap chart – use the brainstorm for inspiration
Consider non-technical resources and enablers and capture these in Resources layer of roadmap
