English Bill of Rights
was an act passed by the British Parliament in 1689. It listed the rights of the English people and the rules that English monarchs had to follow.
Manga Carta
was a document written in 1215 that established certain rights of English citizens and institutions.
Mercantilism
an economic theory that was practiced by European powers from the 1500s to the 1700s. Nations that practiced mercantilism believed that a nation could become more powerful if it followed certain economic principles.
French and Indian War
was a conflict that took place between Great Britain and France. It was part of a larger conflict known as the Seven Years’ War. British colonists fought on the side of Great Britain, and Native Americans fought alongside the French, which is how the war got its name
Ohio River Valley
served as an important transportation route in the early days of American settlements. The Iroquois Native Americans lived on the land before European explorers and fur trappers discovered it. Both France and Britain built settlements in the Ohio River Valley.
Sons of Liberty
The Sons of Liberty were independent groups of American colonists that formed in the summer of 1765 to protest British tax policies.
Daughters of Liberty
The Daughters of Liberty was the name used for groups of women who supported the boycotts and found or made substitutes for British goods. Groups known as the Sons of Liberty also formed at this time to protest the British taxes.
Boston Tea Party
The government decided to tax there tea and had sent shipment of tea and the colonist took over there ship and dumped crates of tea in the ocean.
Colonist were mad over to many things being taxed and they took enough when they taxed tea so they decide to fight back.
Paul Revere
played an important role in warning fellow colonists that British troops were marching to Lexington and Concord in 1775. Because of his help, local minutemen were ready for battle when the British troops got to Lexington.
The Battle of Lexington and Concord
marked the official start of the American Revolutionary War. They occurred on April 19, 1775, when the British tried to seize American military supplies in Concord, Massachusetts. The colonists had been alerted to the plan, thanks in part to the now-famous ride by Paul Revere. During this ride, he warned the colonists of the approaching British troops.
Common Sense persuaded many people that it was time to declare independence from Great Britain. Common Sense was an important document that influenced the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence.

Natural rights, those said to have been given by God, are thought of as rights that all people have from the moment they are born. These rights generally include life, liberty, and property

Unalienable Rights
rights that people are born with and that cannot be taken away. Unalienable rights are different from civil rights, which are rights that governments grant to people, particularly to their citizens.
Declaration of Independence
the United States was a new nation, independent of Great Britain. The Declaration was a response to British taxes and other policies that many colonists opposed. The colonists wrote it after British troops fought against colonial militia in the battles of Lexington and Concord, among others.
