-price is actually more because of previous bribery but now customs are more strict so the price doubled

A

Pur:to boycott English goods
-9 of the 12 colonies met in New York and told merchants to boycott English goods
-worked English sales in America droped by 300000 pounds
-eventually England stoped stamp act

The declatory act

A

-England passes act saying that they can make Americas laws.
-colonists mad because they wanted a compromise where they would follow parliaments laws but they also wanted their own laws made by colonial legislaters.

The Townshend Acts

A

-passed by parliament and treasury leader Charles Townshend
heavy taxes on imported goods (lead glass paper paint and tea)
-reorganized Americas custom service so that it was easy for English offices to seize a ship who had broken a small rule or law
-Had governor of New York (British) veto any laws passed by NY Legislature until they supplied troop Brits with food and housing

  • this law led to boycott and 40%drop in imported British goods in America

Boston Massacre

A

British troops sent to enforce taxes and control colonists were pelted by snowballs with glass and stones in them by drunk colonists
-brits got confused and fired killing 5 colonists
-first to die was Crispus Atticus a African American
-Sam Adams inflated and spread the story through newspapers

Boston tea party

A
  • Lord North let East India company sell tea without a tax so they got a monopoly
    -this put other merchants out of business and they couldn’t make money smuggling any more
    -protest arranged by Sam Adams and they dressed up as native Americans and through 342 chests of tea in the harbor
