Fredonian Rebellion
After Haden Edwards tried to kick settlers out of Nacogdoches, he was revoked of his land grant and forced to leave. Edwards was angry and declared independence from Mexico and became the Fredonian Rebellion.
Meir Y Teran Report
Meir Y Teran was sent to Texas to inspect settlements and report back to Mexican authorities. He reported back that American settlers outnumbered Mexican settlers 10 to 1, and made recommendations to place more troops, attract more Mexican settlers, and increase trade.
Law of April 6
There were six laws made to prevent immigration to Texas.
Centralist Party
The Centralist Party came to power in 1829 and were more strict on colonists. Centralists wanted central government to have more control and power than the states. Texas did not like them. ex. Law of April 6, 1830
Federalist Party
The Federalists came to power in the 1820s. They left colonists alone and wanted the states to have more control. Texas liked the Federalists. ex. Constitution of 1824
Stephen F. Austin
In 1832, Santa Anna became president. Stephen F. Austin was sent to deliver request changes from the convention. Stephen became tired of waiting on Santa Anna and sent a letter suggesting to make a temporary government. He was then arrested by Mexican authorities.
Turtle Bayou Resolutions
In the resolution, the colonists pledged their allegiance to Mexican Federalists and said their actions were against Bradburn, not Mexico. They wanted to state their loyalty Mexico and Santa Anna.
Battle of Velasco
John Austin went to get a cannon but gets stopped by officials. They stop him and a skirmish happens between them. The Mexicans surrendered and John went back to Turtle Bayou only to realize they did not need the cannon anymore.
Santa Anna
In 1832 - 1833 Santa Anna became president. People began to suspect he was becoming a dictator when he threw out the Mexican Constitution of 1824 and roughly dealt with situations involving Texans.
Convention of 1833
Texans wanted to see changes in the Mexican government. Texans wanted to resume US immigration, to not have import taxes, and to separate statehood for Texas.
