RNA- mRNA and tRNA Flashcards
How is RNA different to DNA?
-Pentose in RNA is ribose and in DNA is deoxyribose
-Organic base Uracil replaces thymine in RNA
-mRNA and tRNA are single stranded and DNA is double stranded
What structure does mRNA have?
Linear
What process is mRNA involved in?
Protein synthesis
How is mRNA formed and where does it go?
Formed in the nucleus during transcription
Moves to the ribosome
Where is tRNA found?
In the cytoplasm
How many types of tRNA molecules are there?
At least 20 different types
What shape are tRNA molecules?
What causes this?
Clover leaf
Due to hydrogen bonds between complementary bases
What two areas does a tRNA molecule possess?
An anticodon on one end
A binding site at the other end
What is the anticodon completely too?
The codon
What is the differences between mRNA and tRNA?
(Big table)
-mRNA has a linear structure and tRNA had a clover leaf structure
-mRNA has codons aka mRNA triplets and tRNA has anticodons aka 3 unpaired bases
-mRNA has no Hydrogen bonds present but tRNA does have hydrogen bonds
-mRNA has no amino acid binding site but tRNA does
- mRNA involved in both transcription and translation but tRNA only involved in translation
-mRNA formed in nucleus and tRNA formed in cytoplasm
How many amino acids can a tRNA molecule bind too?
Only one specific amino acid
What does the mRNA in ribosome determine?
What tRNA binds
