RNA Flashcards
1
Q
structural differences between dna and rna (6)
A
- dna is long and forms a double helix, whereas rna is short, straight and single stranded
- rna has ribose as a sugar whereas dna has deoxyribose
- rna has uricil (u) instead of thymine (t)
- dna is located in the nucleus, chloroplast and mitochondria whereas rna is located in the nucleus and cytoplasm
- dna is in the form of chromatin whereas rna is in the form of mrna, trna and rrna
- dna is a fairly stable molecule whereas rna is a very unstable molecule
2
Q
the types, structure and location of rna: messenger rna (mrna)
A
is copied from sections of dna in the nucleus and is used in the cytoplasm to manufacture protein
3
Q
the types, structure and location of rna: transfer rna (trna)
A
is produced from dna in the nucleus and is used in the cytoplasm to manufacture protein
4
Q
the types, structure and location of rna: ribosomal rna (rrna)
A
ribosomes are essential for protein synthesis. they are found free in the cytoplasm or attached to the tubules of the rough endoplasmic reticulum
