RN1 Exam 3 Flashcards
What are the manifestations for hyperchloremia?
weakness, deep rapid breathing, can become unconscious (chloride follows sodium)
What are the manifestations for hypophosphatemia?
tremors, paresthesia, bone pain, seizures, hyperventilation
What are the manifestations for hyperphosphatemia? anxiety, tetany, twitching, hyperactive DTR, muscles spasms (Inversely related to Ca+)
anxiety, tetany, twitching, hyperactive DTR, muscles spasms (Inversely related to Ca+)
What are the manifestations for hypomagnesemia?
muscle tremors and twitching, Vtach, Vfib, flacid muscles
What does phosphorus do?
Grow and repair cells and tissues in the body. Works together (inversely) with calcium.
What are the manifestations for hypermagnesemia?
lethargy, muscle weakness/paralysis. hypotension
What are the manifestations for hypocalcemia?
convulsions, arrhythmias, tetany, stridor/spasms (CATS)
What are the manifestations for hypernatremia?
dry mucous membranes, flushed, dry skin, agitated (sodium follows water)
What does calcium do?
forms and strengthens bones and teeth, helps nerve signaling and muscle contraction. (need vitamin D in order to absorb calcium)
What are the normal lab values for phosphorus?
2.4 - 4.4 mEq/L
What does chloride do?
Works with potassium, sodium, and bicarbonate to regulate fluid in the body and maintain acid-base balance.
What are the normal lab values for magnesium?
1.5 - 2.5 mEq/L
What are the manifestations for hyperKalemia?
tachycardia, numbness to face, hands and feet, nausea, and diarrhea
What are the normal lab values for potassium?
3.5 - 5.0 mEq/L
What are the normal lab values for chloride?
96 - 106 mEq/L
