Practical issues with research: time and money
Researchers access to resources can be a major issue in deciding which methods to apply
Requirements of funding bodies
Research institutes, businesses and organizations that provide funding may require the results to be in a particular form
Personal skills characteristics
Different skills may affect ability to use different methods
Subject matter
It may be harder to study a particular group or subject by a particular method
Research opportunity
Opportunity to carry out research occurs unexpectedly and so structured methods may not be possible to use
Informed consent
P’s should be offered right to withdraw/refuse and told all relevant aspects of research
Harm to p’s
Awareness of effects a study may have on p’s and anticipate and prevent harm
Confidentiality
Keeps p’s identity anonymous to prevent negative effects
Vulnerable groups
Special care with groups that are young or have learning difficulties, obtain consent from guardian and child
Covert research
Can create deception
