Anaphora
Reputation of the same word at the beginning of successive clauses
Ex: nothing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing to keep off the flames of wrath, nothing….nothing…nothing…
Antithesis
The combination of contrasting ideas, emphasizes by a parallel structure
Ex: it was the best of times; it was the worst of times. It was the age if wisdom; it was the age if foolishness.
Epistrophe
Repetition of the same single word or phrase is repeated at the end of a clause; opposite of Anaphora
: when I was a child, I spake as a child…
Metonymy
Figure of speech in which a person, place, or thing is referred to by something closely associated with it
: we requested from the crown support for our petition
Rhetorical question
Asking a question not for the purpose of answering it but to assert or deny something
: are fleets and armies necessary to a work of love and reconciliation?
