Chiasmus
Reversal of grammatical structures in successive phrases or clauses
Ex-exalts his enemies, his friends destroys
Antimetabole
Repetition of words in successive clauses, in reverse order
Ex- we didn’t land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed on us
Paradox
A statement that initially appears To be self contradictory, but at a closer look makes sense; usually finds the figurative rather than the contradicting literal meaning
Ex: from a Christain p.o.v death can’t kill a dead person
Periodic sentence
Usually a complex sentence that has no subordinate or descriptive elements following the main clause
:the proper place for the word or group of words that the writer desires to make most prominent is usually the end
Euphemism
The substitution of an agreeable or inoffensive expression for one that might offend or express something unpleasant; used to obscure the reality of a situation
: I just bought a wonderful, pre-owned car for my daughter
