Why are rivers often perceived as goddesses?
Rivers are lifelines, because they feed entire villages and grandly impact the regional economy/modes of production.
What is Adi Perukku?
It’s an annual festival celebrating the Kaveri river and the goddess she embodies. Devotees pray for a life-sustaining monsoon season by offerig food to satiate the river’s appetite. Young girls perform a traditional dance along the riverbanks.
Why is the month of May considered inauspicious?
If the baby is born in May, which tends to be the hottest month of the year, the child-bearer and the child wouldn’t be able to tolerate the heat.
Why are rivers considered sacred?
Rivers are life-giving and therefore should be worshipped.
How do devotees navigate the growing pollution of rivers?
For many, the purifying power o the river is still present, despite the pollution. The purity of the river isn’t linked to its level of pollution. The power of the river absorbs the pollution.
Define the term prayag.
Prayag refers to a pilgrimage place at the confluence of two or more rivers. It is a place of sacrifice where river goddesses come together.
Define tirthas.
They are certain parts of the earth that give access to the heavenly worlds.
What is baby Krishna like?
He is a mischievous child who steal sweets and butter. He is playful and smothered with familial affection. He is a living paradox, as he is the Supreme Lord in the body of a toddler.
What is young adult Krishna like?
He sneaks out to the forest to meet with young women, whom he entices with his flute. This is during that stage of his life where he is associated with Radha.
What is adult Krishna like?
He is a serious warrior, ruler, counselor, teacher and leader. He teaches discipline and loving devotion to others, sometimes sharing his true nature as the Supreme Lord.
Are Radha and Krishna married?
Radha is Krishna’s beloved but they are both married to other people. They experience intense loving emotions for each other.
